Customer asks:
I would like to replace two panelled double doors – one exterior door and one interior door. The current old doors are divided exactly in half, but the problem is that the passage opening of the double door is too narrow and inconvenient for everyday use. The total opening width is 1390mm, and the usable passage width is only 650mm. Is it possible to keep the current door layout while still increasing the passage opening?
Aru Grupp replies:
Yes, such a solution is entirely possible. Similar situations often occur when renovating older buildings.
We solve this by making the active door leaf wider to ensure a comfortable and sufficient passageway. At the same time, we maintain a visually equal distribution of the double door: the door panels (door frames) of both door leaves are made of the same width. Two weatherstrips will be installed on the wider, or active, door leaf. This will keep the door symmetrical when closed – the center of the door will be designed with two weatherstrips, and both door leaves will have panels of equal width.
This solution ensures both aesthetic balance in the design and comfortable everyday use.
